Is IPTV legal? What you need to know
3 min read · updated Nov 1, 2026
IPTV simply means "Internet Protocol television". The technology is perfectly legal: operators' boxes and many official services use it.
The player is legal
An IPTV player such as TOS is software, like a video player. It provides no channels or content.
It all depends on the playlist
- Legal: a playlist from a service that holds the rights to the channels and programmes, your own streams, free channels broadcast legally.
- Illegal: a playlist giving access to pay channels or movies without the rights holders' consent. In many countries, including France, watching or distributing such content is copyright infringement.
Our position
TOS must be used only with playlists you are legally entitled to. We don't sell or recommend any IPTV subscription.
