IPTV on the Google TV Streamer: the getting started guide

The Google TV Streamer replaced the Chromecast with Google TV. Faster, with more memory and an Ethernet port, it is an excellent box for IPTV. Here is how to set it up in a few minutes.

1. Use Ethernet if you can

The Streamer has an Ethernet port. A cable avoids Wi-Fi drops during games and speeds up loading large playlists. Otherwise, keep the router close and use 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

2. Install TOS with Downloader

Open the Play Store and install Downloader.
In Settings › Apps › Security & restrictions › Unknown sources, allow Downloader.
If that menu is missing: Settings › System › About, select Android TV OS build 7 times, then go back to step 2. Details here.
Open Downloader and type the code 5179947.

3. Add your playlist

On first launch, choose the free trial (7 days), then add your M3U link or your Xtream Codes login. TOS loads the channels, the TV guide, movies and series. See Add your IPTV playlist.

4. Make it your home screen

If the TV allows it, TOS can replace the Google TV home screen: your apps, HDMI inputs and favourite channels as soon as you switch on. You can go back to the original home screen at any time.

5. Pair your phone

Open TOS on your phone, on the same Wi-Fi, and pair it with the TV: it becomes a remote and a keyboard for searching. Control TOS from your phone.
